I have always had a wonderful experience at the Smile Spa. Thank you for being so attentive and providing all the little extras that you do! When I moved to Chicago I was very concerned with finding a dentist I could feel comfortable with. I have TMJ (it’s a jaw/grinding issue) and also wanted to find someone who was familiar with the condition and could make recommendations on how to tretaa it. I was absolutely thrilled with the service and care I received at Dr. Gerilyn Alfe’s office. This truly is a “spa” environment. As soon as you walk into the clean and modern office you are pampered by everyone you meet.
It is a small and intimate setting where you’ll be worked on by Dr. Alfe the entire time. She’s young, incredibly friendly and very sweet. I’ve always felt at ease in her presence and as a doctor who also suffers with TMJ I knew I could trust her recommendations (if you have it, inquire about the NTI guard!)
Dr. Alfe uses only the top-of-the-line equipment and procedures. My general cleaning was done with a laser (no high pitched tools!) a high tech gum and cavity search, and if you do have to have a cavity filled you won’t see any mercury fillings used here. Additionally, they had a headset and a selection of DVD’s to watch while I was being worked on so I barely noticed what was happening around me.
Besides all the great, friendly service, they offer you complimentary bottle water and their own chapstick after the cleaning along with the requisite toothbrush (it’s a pretty nice one at that). The only negative is they aren’t associated with any insurance programs so you’ll have to pay at the time of your visit and request reimbursement after your sessions. Plus, most insurance companies won’t reimburse in full since Dr. Alfe’s services go “above and beyond” what the insurance company may feel is necessary. Don’t let it stop you, though! Dr. Alfe is amazing and all worth it!

It was really great to be pampered in a "dentist" office that I never have before in other dentist offices. I was offered to have a heated lavender neck rest, a movie of my choice and captioning feature was turned on upon my request. The whole "dentist" experience was sweet and on top of this, I got a sweet goodie bag filled with chapstick, dental floss, a brand new toothbrush, and a bottle of water. No other dentists have ever done that for me and I love her for that. I feel like an important client with VIP / red carpet treatment. I appreciate her for treating me this way and her clients. She's great for bringing this concept forward from the 20th century to what it could be and should be "now", the 21st century.

Over the past several years I had become increasingly self-conscious of
the teeth I was showing the world. No longer proud of my smile, I found
myself hiding behind my hand as I spoke and holding my hand up to my mouth
when laughing. It was more than aesthetics, though, and I was becoming
increasingly more aware of how the health of our mouths affects the health
of our bodies.
Finding a dentist with whom I felt a connection was proving to be impossible.
Nobody seemed to understand what this felt like for me; discussing the state
of health of my teeth was humiliating. There didn't seem to be many options
available to me. This was particularly frustrating with all the commercials
for a brighter/whiter smile... everyone in the world, it seemed, was a candidate
for this. everyone except me.
I knew what I was looking for in a dentist and I was determined to persevere,
and so, on one fateful evening, while I did yet another Internet search, I
happened upon the Chicago Smile Spa website. Intrigued, I read through every
page and felt that connection I was seeking.
The next day I called the office and spoke with Michael. he answered all
my questions and even some I hadn't thought of. He assured me that Dr. Gerilyn
Alfe was a dentist unlike any other and her office and environment are geared
specifically towards the health and well being of the patient... body, mind, and
sole (they offer slippers for weary feet)!
I made an initial consultation appointment, and, although I was extremely
impressed so far, I didn't have high expectations that Dr. Alfe would be able
to really improve my smile.
I was given a complete tour of the new space. no hidden secrets lurking
behind closed doors... followed by a fabulous conversation with Gerilyn. I
know we must have talked about my teeth at some point during that initial
visit, but what I remember most is the books we talked about, the horror
stories about moving we swapped, and the laughter. lots and lots of laughter.
I felt an immediate connection with Gerilyn. I didn't
feel awkward or embarrassed; I felt extremely comfortable and looked forward
to having the work done. so much so that I never cancelled an appointment...
and was never even tempted to.
Fast forward to now: My smile is fabulous. I have never looked better! The
work has not only given me back my health, it has given me back my self-confidence.
I found what I was looking for. a dental practice with a focus on the individual!
Gerilyn, do you know just how much I love my smile? I knew I had really begun to
feel self-conscious, but I really wasn't aware just how deeply that went... what you
do is more than simple dentistry.it is transformational. I'm glad you're in my life!
