True to her practice philosophy, Dr. Alfe takes preventive
care to that next level. She uses the
latest and greatest that technology has to offer
to combat the
two major forces that can wreak havoc and endanger
your teeth: 1) bacteria and 2) damage caused by clenching
and grinding. She is proactive and ever-vigilant
in the
care and protection of your teeth.
We offer the following preventive care services:
- Regular Cleanings or Hygiene -
Say goodbye to scraping! Dr. Alfe uses soft tissue
management to clean your teeth. Here’s how
the process works:
- We painlessly disinfect your gums using a diode laser in a non-cutting
mode. The laser destroys the bacterial compounds that cause
gum infection (gingivitis) so Dr. Alfe doesn’t run the risk
of spreading infection from one part of your
mouth to another. Do
your gums ever bleed? This is a sign of gum infection! While
it may be “normal”, it’s not healthy! When
Dr. Alfe sterilizes your mouth with the laser
prior to treatment, she is also preventing
the spread of oral bacteria that cause gum
infection into your bloodstream.
- We then use an ultrasonic device
to melt away the tartar (instead of scraping
with a metal instrument!)
- Finally, to polish your teeth after they have
been cleaned, Dr. Alfe uses a “Prophy Jet” which uses
a mixture of water and polishing paste that will remove stains not
only on the front and back of your teeth, but also between your
teeth! What power washers do for your car, or microdermabrasion
does for your face, the Prophy Jet does for
your teeth!

Breath Treatment - 90% of bad breath is caused by
bacterial by products; you can effectively combat the bacteria by using
an oolitt
(a tongue scraper), and Closys II products for disinfecting and
cleansing
